6 Shocking Mobile Statistics You Never Knew!

It is no secret by now that we are living in a digital age. Digital technology plays a role in most people's day-to-day life and opens us up to possibilities that we may not have seen otherwise. Mobile is perhaps one of the fastest growing and most popular forms of technology around today.
Roughly 90% of all American adults have a cell phone and most of them could not imagine a life "off the grid" even if only for a matter of hours. The majority of businesses have become aware of this fact and have adjusted their busiess models accordingly.
Mobile has become the new "window to the world" that fits in the palm of your hand. Mobile allows people to do just about anything they could do on a computer without being limited to one place. This technology will allow you to download an app, play a game, listen to music and make a purchase; all while on the go.
With that being said, mobile is not going anywhere anytime soon and many businesses are looking for ways to make it even easier for consumers to use the technology to conduct day-to-day business. Currently, mobile accounts for 17% of all eCommerce sales and that percentage is growing. Within 5 years, about 1/2 of mobile users will be using their smartphones as their preferred payment method.
Do you know how businesses are using mobile now and in the future? Here are a few surprising statistics that you probably didn't know:
1. 4 out of 5 consumers use their smartphones to shop.
2. Over 80% of retailers plan to invest in mobile next year.
3. 57 percent of mobile device owners learned about a product they purchased via mobile channels, compared to 37 percent for TV, 23 percent for desktop PCs or laptops and 19 percent for print media.
4. 64% of consumers think that businesses should converse with customers more often using SMS
5. 64% of consumers subscribed to mobile marketing indicated that they have made a purchase as a result of receiving a highly relevant mobile message.
6. By the end of 2015, mobile app development projects will outnumber native PC projects by a ratio of 4-to-1.
These statistics tell us that mobile technology has huge effects on consumers personal lives. Consumers are starting to place a large emphasis on mobile when making buying decisions and companies should pay attention. According to Internet Retailer, mobile commerce will be nearly half of all eCommerce by 2018. Half! You can wait until then to adopt a mobile strategy but it will likely be too late.
